For dancers considering college dance teams OR wanting to keep their options open.
Dancers, if you are interested in being recruited for a college dance team, your social media matters. Coaches WILL look at your dance account, and it serves as your resume. Even if you’re only considering college dance, follow these steps to keep your options open.
1️⃣ Clean + Professional Accounts Only
Your account should be:
Clean, appropriate, and updated.
Bio must include:
Class of (ex: Class of 2028)
Your studio (UC Stars Dance)
Any relevant accomplishments (medals, scholarships, rankings, etc.)
Absolutely NO:
Bathing suit photos
TikToks or trends
Anything unprofessional or unrelated to dance
Treat your page as your resume.
2️⃣ Story Highlights Every Dancer Should Have
Create and maintain highlights labeled:
Competitions
In Studio
Clinics
Each highlight should showcase:
Competitions: Professional photos/videos only. No backstage, silly, or low-quality images.
In Studio: Skills, combos, or training clips.
Clinics: Content from college clinics you’ve attended.
3️⃣ What to Post
Your posts should ONLY include:
Skills
Combinations
Conventions
Competitions
Skill posts:
Best as a short highlight reel, not single clips.
If you post one skill, it should be solid 3 times in a row before posting.
Combos:
Film combos with JUST you when possible.
If in a group, point yourself out in the caption.
Example: “I’m the 3rd dancer from the left in the opening section.”
Competition routines: Completely acceptable!
Just identify yourself clearly so coaches know who they’re watching.
If you’re unsure whether a post is appropriate—ASK US. We’re here to help.
4️⃣ Engagement Matters
To get on a coach’s radar, you should:
Follow teams you aspire to join.
Like & comment regularly.
“LOVE this routine!”
“Happy Game Day!”
Small, professional comments go a long way.
Important:
Most college dance Instagrams are run by the athletes or assistant coaches—not the head coach. You want those dancers/assistants to notice you and say:
"Coach, you should look at this dancer!"
5️⃣ Contacting Teams
Before messaging ANY team:
You must follow the prompts we give you.
Do NOT contact teams blindly. We will guide you.
⭐️ Dancers, if you need help cleaning up your profile, choosing content, or writing captions, please ask us. Your digital first impression matters.
Let’s use your social media as a professional tool to support your future!
